Google Maps checklist: get your club found

Most new members find a club through Google, so your Google Maps listing is your real front door. Claim the listing, get the name, address, category and opening hours exactly right, add real photos, link it to your osocios page and answer every review. Then paste the Google Maps link into osocios and your club page fills itself in.

  1. Find your listing on Google Maps

Search your club's name on Google Maps from a phone that is not signed in to your account. If nothing comes up, create the listing at business.google.com. If two listings come up, ask Google to merge or remove the duplicate so reviews are not split.

  2. Claim and verify it

Open the listing and choose "Own this business?" to claim it with your club's Google account. Finish the verification Google asks for (a code by post, phone or video). Until it is verified, anyone can suggest edits to your listing.

  3. Get the basics exactly right

Use the name that is on your door, nothing added. Check the pin sits on your entrance, not the middle of the block. Pick the closest main category and set the phone number members actually call.

  4. Set opening hours, including holidays

Enter your regular hours and add special hours before every holiday. A visitor who arrives at a closed door because Google said open rarely comes back.

  5. Add real photos

Upload your logo, a photo of the entrance so people recognise it from the street, and a few of the space. Listings with photos get far more clicks than listings without.

  6. Link the listing to your osocios page

Set the website field to your club page, osocios.club/your-club. Visitors land on your public page, where they can preregister before their first visit.

  7. Answer every review

Reply to every review, good or bad, within a few days. Short and polite is enough. Ask happy members to leave one: the number and freshness of reviews decide how high you appear.

  8. Add your club to osocios by its Google link

In Google Maps, open your listing, tap Share and copy the link. Paste it on osocios.club/pricing under "Add your club by Google link", or straight into the Google Maps box at osocios.club/onboarding. The club name fills itself in from the listing.

Frequently asked questions

Does this cost anything?

No. Google Business Profile is free, and so is the Google Maps check we do for your club. Request it on the pricing page.

What if someone else already claimed my listing?

Choose "Request access" on the listing. Google asks the current owner, and if they do not answer within a few days you can claim it yourself.
